Great Britain's David Smith, Jamie McCowan and Stephen McGuire all won gold on the final day of the European Championships in Portugal.
The thrilling finale saw Paralympic champion Smith turn a 4-0 deficit against Russia's Mikhail Gutnik into a stunning 5-4 victory, while McGowan trailed 6-0 and 7-4 before coming through to win 8-7.
GB take FIVE medals from SEVEN events at the European Champs including THREE Individual Golds with TWO incredible comebacks. Job well done!— Boccia UK (@BocciaUK) November 1, 2017
It was slightly smoother going for McGuire, who beat Russia's Sergey Safin - who he had lost to in the earlier stages of the tournament - to add a European title to the world title he claimed last year.
McGuire and McCowan both leave Portugal with a silver and a gold medal in their luggage after finishing in second place in the BC4 and BC3 Pairs event respectively.
That's me undefeated for the season! Huge thank you to Sarah Payne Glynn Tromans, Fran and Dawn Borland for all the support over the year!— David Smith MBE (@Bocciasmithy) November 2, 2017
For world number one Smith, the dramatic comeback victory adds the final flourish to an astonishing unbeaten season with significant wins also coming at the BISFed World Open in Kansas.
