Great Britain's Zoe Newson added Para Powerlifting World Championship bronze to her medal collection after a lift of 97kg in Mexico.
The Paralympic bronze medalist lifted the weight at her second attempt to finish behind China's Lingling Guo - who set a new world record of 110 kg - and Turkey’s Nazmiye Muratli, who took silver with 107 kg.
Came 3rd with a lift of 97kgs at the world championship wasn’t my best performance today but happy to come away with a medal. Thank you everyone for your support.— Zoe Newson (@Zoenewson92) December 4, 2017
Guo was making her debut in major international competition but certainly made an impression as she topped the previous world record of 108 kg and beat Muratli, the reigning Paralympic and world champion.
There was a second world record on day three at the World Championships, with Vietnam’s Van Cong Le taking gold with a lift of 183.5kg - 0.5 kg more than he managed to set the previous record in Rio last year.
Meanwhile, Britain's Natalie Blake finished sixth in the -55kg category after a lift of 90 kg.
