He's the world number two table tennis player, a self-confessed British patriot and genuine gold medal contender for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Will Bayley, a 24-year-old from Tunbridge Wells, is based in Sheffield, headquarters of English Table Tennis Association, where thousands of hours of preparation have been invested for four days of competition in the Class 7 competition at the ExCel Centre between 30 August to 2 September.

Bayley is the defending European champion as well as the European Players' Player of the Year from 2011, so he knows 2012 is his year.

When asked by C4Paralympics to describe himself, his response was: "Fighting spirit and winning mentality, plus a good work ethic in the training hall. A solid backhand with a great forehand!"

Time to smoke opponents with that "great forehand".
