What's your favourite movie scene featuring cycling?
"I quite like American Flyers, where Kevin Costner does his sprint training with Eddie the dog. It makes me chuckle and I always think about it when there's a stray, angry dog on the road."
Have you had any embarrassing crashes?
"I crashed into a pedestrian who suddenly walked across the road once. I couldn't get round him, clipped him and sent myself flying. It was two days before the 2009 Road World Championships started, so not the best time to wrench ribs and bruise my right hip."
