"I should have been a marine biologist - I love the sea."

You hurl both the javelin and discus. Which is your favourite event?
"I'd say I prefer javelin right now as I'm having fun with it. I've changed my technique and it's really working. I've done a load of personal bests and won the World Championships where I beat my nemesis Rostislav Pohlmann."
The best moment of your career so far is…
"Before the Worlds it was finishing fourth at Beijing when I wasn't expected to get anywhere close to the medals as I was just there for experience. I was buzzing off it for weeks! I'm still buzzing off it really. I just want London to come round now so we can do it all again."
Is anything better than being an athlete?
"Yes, surfing. When I'm not training, I'm down on the beach in the sea or hanging out with my mates there. I love going up to Pembrokeshire for a cheeky weekend away surfing. I should have been a marine biologist - I love the sea. I could have spent all day on the beach!"
What is your favourite throwing scene in a movie?
"In Troy where Brad Pitt launches a spear straight over a guy's shoulder, it goes on for about a quarter of a mile and then knocks this bloke off his horse. It's ridiculous. No one can throw a javelin like that. Or that far."
A movie is being made of your life. Who plays you?
"Ryan Reynolds. I've got a bit of a man crush on him. I think he's a great actor and he's cool."
You can only eat one thing for the rest of your life. What is it?
"My mum's beef stew. On a cold winter's day one mouthful of it will warm you up straightaway. Or steak and chips with peppercorn sauce - it's always delicious."
Which one of the 'The Inbetweeners' did you most resemble at school?
"I wasn't like any of them when I was a kid. I wasn't the geek, or the pervy one Jay. I reckon I was most like Simon the normal one, although my flat-mates reckon I'm Will. I'm not Will!"
