Paralympic archery was first given a global audience back in 1992 when Spain's Antonio Rebollo had the honour of shooting the arrow that lit the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony of the Barcelona Games.

There will be a total of 140 archers (88 men and 52 women) competing at London 2012, with nine gold medals up for grabs over seven days, at the historic Royal Artillery Barracks in south-east London.

Archery has been at the heart of the Paralympics since it was introduced to the Games in Rome 1960. ParalympicsGB  completely swept the board in Italy and came home with a big old haul of 10 medals, including gold for Margaret Maughan in the Women's Columbia round.

What to say: Archery

"Sod Robin Hood or William Tell, the Paralympics archers are where it's at and can shoot their arrows at speeds of over 150m/h."

Who's Good: Archery

China topped the table on home soil in Beijing in 2008 with seven medals, but second-place Great Britain and perennial heavyweights South Korea in third weren't far behind. All three countries claimed two gold medals apiece.
